'Venice rated the most romantic city'

Venice is the most romantic city of the world, according to a survey.

Europe picked up six of the top 10 destinations, with Venice pipping the traditional favourite city of Paris for the top spot.

The other cities that made it to the list in order were Rome, Vienna and New York. Melbourne was the only Australian destination to make the cut, scoring ninth place.

Australian online accommodation website Wotif.com surveyed nearly 2,000 of its customers around the globe to find their opinions on Valentine's Day.

Wotif.com market manager Saskia Moon said Melbourne had proved particularly popular with New Zealand and Asian voters.
